Basin RV in Moses Lake, Washington, recently marked its first anniversary under the ownership of RJ and Teri McFadden, who say they are committed to supporting the local community while expanding the business.
Since acquiring the RV repair and sales shop last year, the McFaddens have sponsored several area events and emphasized a family-oriented approach to operations.
“We’ve got five kids ourselves,” said RJ, as reported by Columbia Basin Herald on July 7. “They all go to school here in town. So camping in our community is kind of our thing, spreading the dollars here.”
Both RJ and Teri were raised in Moses Lake and bring previous business experience to the venture. RJ formerly owned the Skyline Miniature Golf Course and later co-managed Road Trip RV, a mobile RV repair service.
When Basin RV became available, RJ said he saw an opportunity to establish a more permanent presence in the local RV industry.
The McFaddens began by remodeling the facility to improve its layout and customer experience.
While the previous owner, who still works part-time at the shop, brought deep technical expertise, the space lacked a customer-facing appearance, according to RJ.
Teri took on the role of reorganizing and decorating the business.
“It was definitely a facelift on this place,” she said. “You couldn’t even get in the front door when you walked in. The front door was permanently blocked with tires.”
The couple said they aimed to make Basin RV more accessible and visually appealing. “We wanted to … make it look good,” RJ said. “Now it looks like a business.”
The shop now includes space for the McFaddens’ five children, ranging in age from 3 to 13, to spend time after school.
Teri keeps toys, sand, and coloring books on hand to keep the children engaged. Their youngest child often greets customers.
“We had customers who brought us a thank you card and doughnuts and they brought (him) a little stuffed animal because he is so welcoming,” Teri added.
In addition to in-shop RV repairs, Basin RV continues to offer mobile repair services and sells pre-owned RVs. RJ said the business’s small scale allows for greater flexibility in servicing a wide range of RV types and model years.
“We want to provide you with the best RV shopping experience possible. From researching the RV you want to test driving your options, we’re here to help with our knowledgeable sales staff and an impressive selection of RVs and Campers,” Basin RV indicates on their website.
