Virginia will soon gain its fourth Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Camp-Resort as Northgate Resorts plans to reopen and rebrand the Williamsburg Campground into a Jellystone Park location ahead of the spring camping season.
The 80-acre Williamsburg Campground, located at 4000 Newman Road, was recently acquired by Northgate Resorts and is scheduled to open March 2, according to a January 29 news release.
The opening expands the Jellystone Park footprint in Virginia as demand grows for family camping, glamping and RV travel.
Jellystone Park Camp-Resorts are known for family attractions and character experiences, including pools, splashgrounds, jumping pillows and scheduled activities featuring Yogi Bear characters.
The franchise includes more than 75 locations across the United States and Canada and operates in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Experiences.
“This property has everything needed to be a spectacular Jellystone Park Camp-Resort,” Tessa McCrackin, chief marketing officer for Northgate Resorts, said. “It is so beautiful and well maintained, and it already offers many of the features that families enjoy.”
The campground has been a family destination for more than 50 years, the release said. Northgate Resorts, which owns or operates 19 other Jellystone Park locations, will add branded attractions and activities at the Williamsburg property, including interactions with Yogi Bear, Cindy Bear and Boo Boo, as well as theme weekends.
Accommodations will include fully equipped glamping cabins and yurts with heat and air conditioning, queen beds with linens, microwaves and refrigerators. RV options will include full hook-up sites with pull-through and big rig-friendly spaces, including some with patios. Tent sites will also be available, and a section of the resort that has been closed in recent years will reopen.
The resort will feature three pools, including a heated pool set to open April 3. The splashground will also open April 3. Additional attractions listed for spring include disc golf, gem mining, basketball, playgrounds, hiking trails and an activity room.
Northgate Resorts also plans to add laser tag, a new food truck and golf cart rentals. The pet-friendly resort will include a dog park, pet wash and camp store.
“Northgate Resorts’ Jellystone Park locations are consistently recognized as among the very best in our system,” said Rob Schutter, president of Camp Jellystone, which franchises the brand.
The Williamsburg location is near Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown and Busch Gardens and within driving distance of Newport News, Norfolk and Richmond.
