Floyd/Blue Ridge Parkway KOA Holiday Joins Growing KOA System

Kampgrounds of America (KOA) has welcomed the Floyd/Blue Ridge Parkway KOA Holiday (Virginia) into its system of campgrounds.

The site, located in Floyd, Virginia, is owned and operated by Land & Leisure Management.

Land & Leisure Management, which has a background in real estate development and outdoor hospitality, brings a community-focused approach to the property.

The Floyd/Blue Ridge Parkway KOA Holiday sits just off the Blue Ridge Parkway and has long been a regional draw for families and travelers.

Under KOA’s brand, the property will undergo upgrades designed to expand amenities and strengthen its appeal as a year-round destination.

Taylor Carwile of Land & Leisure Management said the decision to join KOA was driven by the brand’s reputation among campers.

“What inspired us to convert to a KOA campground was the reputation KOA holds among campers for delivering consistent quality and a welcoming, family-friendly environment,” Carwile said.

He added that the move aligns the property with a brand known nationwide for its standards and amenities.

“We wanted to align our campground with a brand recognized nationwide for its high standards and reliable amenities. Partnering with KOA enables us to elevate our offerings and ensure every guest enjoys a memorable experience each time they stay with us,” Carwile said.

According to KOA’s 2024 Camping and Outdoor Hospitality Report, campgrounds play an important role in local economies.

In 2024, campers contributed $61 billion to local communities, spending an average of $200 per day during their stays.

The report also found that cultural experiences are a key driver of travel. About 27% of campers reported an interest in visiting small towns, and another 27% said they were drawn to local food tourism.

The Floyd/Blue Ridge Parkway KOA Holiday plans to add several new features as part of its investment in the property. Planned upgrades include a welcome center, expanded WiFi coverage, new recreational facilities, and additional gathering spaces.

Families will also find larger play areas for children, along with expanded communal amenities intended to encourage group interaction and longer stays.

The Floyd location joins a network of more than 500 KOA campgrounds across the United States and Canada. KOA divides its properties into three categories: KOA Journeys, KOA Holidays, and KOA Resorts.
