Camp Cardinal RV Resort (Virginia) has launched one of the region’s only Haunted Walking Trails, a seasonal attraction running each Saturday in October and culminating on Halloween night.
The Halloween-themed event, which began earlier this month, offers families and thrill-seekers an outdoor experience designed to combine festive fun with spooky encounters.
Guests pay $10 per ticket for entry, which includes access to the Haunted Walking Trail, a hayride from the trailhead to the main campground, a $5 voucher for RiverMutt Ice Cream, and on-site parking.
“This is not your typical haunted house — it’s an outdoor walking trail that winds through the woods, making it one of the only Halloween experiences of its kind in the region,” Camp Cardinal’s Manager and Haunted Walking Trail designer, Corey Lamont, said, as reported by WYDaily on September 30.
Lamont added that the trail is structured to engage a wide audience. “It’s designed to be both fun and frightful, creating lasting memories for families, groups, and horror fans alike,” he said.
The resort also emphasized that the attraction differs from standard indoor haunted houses by using the wooded landscape to heighten the atmosphere. Visitors encounter a haunted house, darkened paths, and staged surprises throughout the walk.
To manage attendance and ensure safety, the resort capped weekly ticket sales at 200. Advance online reservations are strongly encouraged, though some tickets may be available at the gate.
The Haunted Walking Trail was created in-house by Camp Cardinal staff, who designed the layout and constructed the interactive features. The resort described the event as both an entertainment offering and a way to enhance its seasonal programming.
Camp Cardinal RV Resort has historically provided family-friendly amenities and activities, and the Halloween addition builds on that tradition by appealing to both local residents and visitors.
Community members and repeat visitors are among the expected audience.
The addition of the $5 RiverMutt Ice Cream voucher was designed to link the trail with existing on-site amenities, encouraging guests to extend their stay on the property.
