Starting October 15, visitors to Fruita Campground in Torrey, Utah, will be able to reserve campsites year-round through Recreation.gov, including the winter months from November 1 to February 28.
Previously, the campground operated on a first-come, first-served basis during the winter. This shift allows campers to plan their visits up to six months in advance.
This new policy offers flexibility to campers who prefer spontaneous trips and those who like to plan ahead. While the winter season at Fruita Campground remains quieter than during the peak months, the option to book in advance helps ensure a spot for those visiting during the holidays or special occasions.
“Are you a person who goes with the flow and likes to have some flexibility? Don’t worry, you’re still in luck. Fruita Campground is quiet during the winter season; if you visit without a prior reservation, you should be able to easily find an available site and book it when you arrive,” a press release indicated.
Previously, winter campers arriving at Fruita Campground would find an available spot and pay using a fee envelope system. With the new setup, visitors can now reserve and pay online via Recreation.gov or its mobile app, simplifying the process.
According to the press release, while Fruita Campground’s reservation policy is expanding, Loop C will close during the winter months due to freezing risks. The bathhouse in Loop C will shut down in mid-November, and the loop itself will close for camping starting December 1.
For those camping in Loops A and B, generators will be permitted during specific hours, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., throughout the winter.
The campground is also enhancing its amenities for guests, with Wi-Fi already available at the Visitor Center and plans to expand it to the Loop A kiosk in the near future.
