Top 9 Dog-Friendly Campgrounds in the U.S. Elevate Camping Experience

The Dyrt, a camping information and booking app, has unveiled its list of the top nine U.S. campgrounds that are perfect for camping with dogs.

These campgrounds were selected based on reviews from The Dyrt community and feature some of the best dog parks and dog-friendly beaches across the nation.

According to the 2023 Camping Report, over half of the campers (57.1%) brought their pets to the campsite in 2022, with dogs making up a whopping 91% of that figure.

The Dyrt used AI to sift through its nine million photos, reviews, and tips of U.S. campgrounds to identify the most popular spots for campers to bring their four-legged friends.

The top dog-friendly campgrounds include:

  1. Lake George RV Park — New York
  2. Alum Creek State Park — Ohio
  3. Fort De Soto Campground — Florida
  4. Campground at James Island County Park — South Carolina
  5. Silver Springs Campground — Ohio
  6. First Landing State Park — Virginia
  7. Tucson – Lazydays KOA — Arizona
  8. Fall Creek Falls State Park — Tennessee
  9. Chatfield State Park — Colorado

These campgrounds have received positive reviews from The Dyrt users, who praised the environments and experiences tailored to their dogs. For instance, Lake George RV Park, which topped the list, is said to have the “best dog park in the USA,” according to camper Matt T.

The 2023 Camping Report also revealed that there are over 80 million campers in the U.S., and with more than 76 million dogs in the country, it’s clear that pet-friendly amenities are a significant factor for campgrounds to stand out.

Sarah Smith, the founder of The Dyrt, emphasized the importance of pet-friendly campgrounds, stating, “Properties that welcomed and planned for and catered to four-legged visitors made such a huge difference to our camping experience — and Brandy’s!”

As the camping industry continues to grow, providing pet-friendly amenities can be a key differentiator for campgrounds.

With a significant number of campers bringing their pets, particularly dogs, to their camping trips, campgrounds that cater to these needs can attract more visitors and enhance their overall camping experience. This not only improves customer satisfaction but also boosts the campground’s reputation and competitiveness in the market.
