Texas Hill Country Floodwaters Sweep Through RV Park, Causing Major Damage

Floodwaters swept through Blue Oak RV Park in the Texas Hill Country early Friday morning (July 6), destroying the campground and displacing 28 RVs.

The site, located near the Guadalupe River, was one of three neighboring campgrounds severely impacted by the rapid flooding.

Owner Lorena Guillen said the flood arrived without warning, catching them off guard in the middle of the night.

Guillen and her husband, who purchased Blue Oak RV Park four years ago as part of their retirement plan, described the destruction as total.

“It was everything,” Guillen told KHOU 11. “There was screaming. There was so much screaming… you know.”

She recounted rushing outside after rescue lights woke her. By that time, RVs had already begun to float away.

Guillen said she checked the river gauges just an hour earlier. “There was nothing to indicate there was going to be a flood,” she said.

She also contacted the County Sheriff’s Department, but said there was no information at that time about rising water levels. “Nobody knew this was happening.”

The floodwaters rose more than 20 feet, overwhelming the property and reaching the nearby restaurant Guillen also owns, Howdy’s Bar and Chill.

She and her husband began banging on RV doors, urging residents to evacuate immediately.

Debris from nearby cabins was also found lodged in trees. “Our beautiful RV Park is totally devastated. Closed until further notice,” the campground also indicates in a Facebook post.

According to its website, Blue Oak RV Park is the newest RV destination along the Guadalupe River in Kerrville, Texas, offering a peaceful, pet-friendly environment just minutes from area attractions.

The park features sites and a range of amenities, including wifi, laundry facilities, picnic areas, a community BBQ grill, waterfront access, back-in RV sites, a dump station, water and sewer hookups, and both 50/30 amp service.
