TACO Urges Early Labor Day Bookings as Texas Campgrounds Fill Fast

The Texas Association of Campground Owners (TACO) is urging travelers to make their Labor Day weekend camping reservations as soon as possible, citing high demand and limited availability at top-rated campgrounds across the state.

“We always encourage people to book their reservations early because the best campsites and cabins always sell out first,” Brian Schaeffer, executive director and CEO of TACO, said in a press release.

Schaeffer emphasized that recent heavy rainfall in the Hill Country region has not significantly impacted the area’s campgrounds.

“People assume Hill Country RV parks were destroyed but that’s not true. Hill Country parks are both open and eager for business,” he said.

To help travelers plan their trips, TACO manages two statewide travel websites—TexasCampgrounds.com and TexasCabinRentals.net—which offer searchable directories of campgrounds and cabins across Texas, complete with location-specific amenities and contact information.

Several campgrounds still have availability for Labor Day weekend.

Options include Big Al’s Barefoot Bay in Pittsburg, which offers lakeside campsites, fishing at Lake Bob Sandlin, and live music at Castaways Bar & Grill, and Camp Tahuaya in Belton, which features glamping tents, hiking trails, and an on-site bistro.

In Santo, Coffee Creek RV Resort & Cabins has 115 RV sites and 15 cabins, with recreational amenities like volleyball and pickleball courts.

Forest Retreat RV Park in New Caney, rated 10-10-10 by the Good Sam Club, also offers nearly 100 sites and features a resort-size pool, clubhouse and fitness center.

Fort Amarillo RV Park serves as a gateway to Palo Duro Canyon State Park and includes amenities such as tennis courts, an indoor heated pool, and a 4,500-square-foot dog park.

In Corpus Christi, Hatch RV Park, operating since 1933, offers access to local attractions including the U.S.S. Lexington Museum and the South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center.

Other parks with availability include Hidden Lake RV Park in Beaumont, Loyd Park in Grand Prairie, Oak Creek RV Park in Weatherford, and Oakdale RV Resort in Glen Rose. Oakdale, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is preparing to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2025 with special events and facility upgrades.

Houston’s Trader’s Village RV Park offers proximity to weekend flea markets and amusement rides, while West Bay Marina RV Park in Azle provides a sandy swim beach, playground, and marina access.

Woodland Lakes RV Park in Conroe serves as a base for those visiting The Woodlands area.

Schaeffer also highlighted the growing number of park-model-style cabin rentals supplied by companies like platinum cottages, which offer fully furnished units with kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms to meet rising demand for upgraded camping accommodations.

TACO, headquartered in Crowley, represents the interests of RV parks, campgrounds and resorts throughout Texas. Its websites also provide access to RV-related services and the free annual RV Travel & Camping Guide to Texas, available in print and digital formats.
