San Marcos River Resort reopened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Lockhart Chamber of Commerce, marking the return of one of Caldwell County’s (Texas) most popular outdoor destinations.
Gathered under the canopy of old pecan trees, community leaders, local business owners, and Chamber members celebrated the resort’s comeback and its expanded lineup of guest amenities.
According to an article published by Post Register on October 23, formerly known as Leisure Resort, the San Marcos River Resort has served as a go-to spot for tubing, swimming, and weekend camping trips along the spring-fed San Marcos River.
Located about 15 miles southeast of the city of San Marcos, the resort remains a familiar stop for families and outdoor enthusiasts alike.
In the past year, the property underwent upgrades aimed at improving guest experience while maintaining the relaxed, nature-oriented setting long associated with the site.
The improvements are visible from the moment guests arrive. Newly paved roads and reinforced concrete pads have been added across RV sites, the clubhouse has been redesigned with a communal kitchen and lounge, and a new pool and spa now provide an alternative to river recreation.
The resort also offers renovated cabins and treehouse-style lodgings nestled among the trees. Traditional tent campers can still enjoy riverbank sites, maintaining the property’s mix of rustic and modern accommodations.
Family-friendly additions include a playground, basketball court, and mini golf area. Scenic walking trails run throughout the grounds, while the dog park provides a designated space for pets accompanying RV travelers.
Seasonal activities, including hayrides and outdoor events, add to the sense of community that has long defined the resort experience.
To make river access easier, the resort operates a shuttle service that carries tubers upstream for an effortless float back to camp.
