East Texas Couple Unveils Big Tex Campgrounds

Nestled in the heart of Ben Wheeler, Texas, Big Tex Campgrounds stands as a testament to the passion and vision of its founders, Josh Burrell and Kaylee Pace.

According to a Tyler Morning Telegraph report, opened earlier this month, this new camping haven offers 17 spacious, shaded monthly RV spots, with plans to introduce 17 more in the near future.

Kaylee Pace’s dream for the campground is grand and rooted in nostalgia. She envisions a five-acre swimming pond, complete with a jumping deck, slide, rope swing, and a sandy beach.

The couple’s shared dream of opening a campground is deeply personal. Both Josh and Kaylee come from RV backgrounds, and their love for the outdoors and camping is evident in every corner of Big Tex Campgrounds. They have poured their savings, heart, and soul into this venture, emphasizing the importance of creating a space where families can forge lasting memories.

“Building this campground together has been a passion project from the start. If we had to break it down into one thing, we would say what makes us wake up every morning to create this campground is the moment that we get to walk around our campground and watch kids playing outside together, parents on the beach sitting in fold out loungers watching their kids swinging on a rope into a pond,” Kaylee told Tyler Morning Telegraph.

The campground’s official website provides a glimpse into their offerings. Monthly spots are available, accommodating up to four people and two vehicles, with no additional pet fees.

Beyond the serene environment and top-notch facilities, what sets Big Tex Campgrounds apart is its commitment to offering a nostalgic camping experience. The couple aims to recreate the magic of camping as it was in 1985, allowing guests to choose their preferred camping style, be it in a cabin, tent, or camper.

According to its Facebook page, once completed, the campground will boast 33 spacious, shaded RV sites and an additional 30 long-term RV sites specifically designed for monthly guests.

One of the major attractions will be a sprawling 5-acre swimming pond, complemented by a beach and a conveniently located store/office. Additionally, visitors seeking a unique camping experience will have the option to choose from 15 diverse accommodations, including tipis, yurts, Safari tents, and cozy cabins.
