Cameron County (Texas) revealed a $12 million infrastructure improvement project at Isla Blanca Park in South Padre Island, aimed at modernizing utilities and enhancing the park’s long-term operational capacity.
The project, located at 33174 State Park Road 100-South, will include upgrades to the electrical, water, and wastewater systems serving 577 existing RV sites. The project is being developed in partnership with engineering firm GDJ Engineering and general contractor Mor-Wil, LLC.
In addition, the county plans to realign Dodson and Emerald Streets to improve traffic flow and accessibility while creating an additional row of RV sites to accommodate growing demand.
To complete the upgrades safely and efficiently, all 577 RV sites will be temporarily closed for approximately 12 months. The closures are necessary to ensure quality construction and safety compliance during the project timeline.
Despite the temporary site closures, public beachside areas of Isla Blanca Park will remain open throughout the construction period.
Visitors will continue to have access to the park’s amenities, including its mile-long gulf shoreline, pavilions, jetties, boat ramp, amphitheater, walking trails, and beachside concessions.
“Isla Blanca Park is one of our county’s most treasured destinations, and these infrastructure improvements are a critical investment in its future,” County Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr. said, as reported by Texas Border Business on October 16.
“By upgrading essential utilities and expanding RV accommodations, we’re ensuring a high-quality experience for all visitors. We thank the public for their support as we enhance this coastal gem for generations to come,” Treviño,added.
The park is one of Cameron County’s most visited outdoor recreation destinations, serving both seasonal and long-term RV guests.
“This project reflects our commitment to improving quality of life for residents and visitors alike,” said County Commissioner Sofia C. Benavides. “These upgrades will enhance safety, accessibility, and recreational opportunities. We’re proud to move forward and grateful for the community’s continued support.”
