Brown & Brown has announced that Chief Operating Officer Steve Hearn will oversee all operations outside of North America across the retail and specialty distribution segments, a move that has already taken effect.
The company, which trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker BRO, confirmed the leadership change in a statement, positioning Hearn as the executive responsible for expanding its global reach.
Hearn, who has held senior roles within the insurance industry, steps into this position as Brown & Brown looks to strengthen its international operations.
“Steve brings extensive experience and deep relationships in the global market. Tapping him to lead operations beyond our North American footprint will enable our ability to leverage robust global capabilities, drive continued growth, further invest in the global marketplace and strengthen our position as an industry leader worldwide,” Powell Brown, president and chief executive officer of Brown & Brown, said in a press release.
“Steve’s continued leadership and the value he will provide for our current and future teammates, customers, carrier partners and shareholders around the world” will be critical to the firm’s progress, Powell Brown added.
Founded in 1939, Brown & Brown has grown into one of the largest insurance brokerage firms in the United States. The company provides retail insurance, wholesale brokerage, and other specialized products to clients across multiple industries.
Its global network now spans more than 700 locations and includes over 23,000 professionals.
Brown & Brown also recently announced the appointment of Joia M. Johnson to its board of directors, further strengthening its leadership team as the company advances its global strategy.
Johnson, who retired as chief legal officer, chief administrative officer, general counsel and corporate secretary of Hanesbrands Inc. in 2021, brings decades of legal, governance, and executive leadership experience to the board.
