Campgrounds meaning to provide fast internet service to campers may benefit from this new satellite internet service by SpaceX.
SpaceX has quietly introduced a new, more powerful “premium” tier of its Starlink satellite internet service. It’s specifically targeted at enterprise and business customers.
The new offering is available on its website and costs five times the price of the standard service designed for consumers. Starlink Premium requires a deposit of $500 (refundable), a $2,500 charge for the router and antenna, and a monthly fee of $500.
Meanwhile, the standard Starlink service, which was launched in October 2020, includes a $99 refundable deposit, a hardware cost of $499, and is priced at $99 per month.
Elon Musk‘s company boasts new hardware, speedier service speeds, and priority support in its advertising to potential customers.
“Starlink Premium has more than double the antenna capability of Starlink, delivering faster internet speeds and higher throughput for the highest demand users, including businesses,” the SpaceX website said.
The first premium deliveries are expected to start in the second quarter of the year, as per the company’s website.
Starlink Premium also offers “unlimited service locations” flexibility. In contrast to the standard service, which guarantees the service at a particular service address, SpaceX says Starlink Premium can be connected from any place.
“Order as many Starlinks as needed and manage all of your service locations, no matter how remote, from a single account,” SpaceX said.
According to the company, Starlink Premium customers can anticipate download speeds of 150 Mbps up to 500 Mbps, and a latency of 20 milliseconds to 40 milliseconds. As a comparison, the standard service boasts speeds between 100 Mbps and 200 Mbps and a tighter latency range.
Furthermore, SpaceX said the Premium satellite antenna “is designed for improved performance in extreme weather conditions.” However, there were no further details on the website. The standard Starlink product features a “snow melt functionality” to remove snow and ice.
SpaceX continues to promote unlimited service usage and says “at this time there are no data caps.”
Its standard product includes over 145,000 users in 25 countries across the globe and more than 1,900 satellites orbiting as of January.
