CARVC Conference Concludes, Highlights Industry Growth and Advocacy Efforts

The 21st annual conference of the Carolinas Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (CARVC) concluded on February 11 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, bringing together nearly 130 attendees, including campground owners, industry experts, and exhibitors.

The event, themed “Team Spirit: Uniting for Success,” featured educational sessions, a trade show, and networking opportunities for professionals in the outdoor hospitality sector.

“I am thrilled with this year’s event,” said Dee Witting, CARVC’s executive director.

“We had a packed house, with close to 130 attendees representing 65 campgrounds and companies in the outdoor hospitality industry. The trade show sold out with 52 exhibitors on hand and a waiting list to get in. We had 29 generous sponsors that contributed to our success,” Witting noted.

The conference incorporated football-themed social events to coincide with the Super Bowl LIX weekend, fostering engagement among attendees. Industry leaders presented on key topics, including marketing strategies, advocacy efforts, team building, data-driven decision-making, and wastewater management.

A two-part keynote session by Kelly Jones, vice president of operations for Great Escapes RV Resorts, focused on team-building strategies. The workshop featured exercises on communication, trust, and problem-solving, emphasizing best practices for campground operations.

An advocacy panel, moderated by David Basler, chief strategy officer and senior vice president of government affairs for OHI, addressed pressing regulatory concerns. Panelists, including Witting and campground operators, discussed the impact of Hurricane Helene, challenges related to electric metering, and the implications of the Credit Card Competition Act.

Attendees had access to a new conference app developed by App My Community, a CARVC sponsor. The app provided real-time updates, schedule details, and interactive features, allowing users to stay informed about events, prize drawings, and other announcements.

The annual CARVC auction, benefiting the association’s programs, raised $15,000. The app facilitated check-in for donors and bidders, streamlining participation in the live and silent auctions.

Recognizing the hardships faced by campground operators following Hurricane Helene, CARVC introduced a scholarship fund to support affected businesses. The initiative provided six scholarships, covering registration, meals, and lodging for park operators in need.

“We were able to provide six scholarships for park operators that took advantage of the opportunity to come to the conference,” Witting said. “The scholarships covered their registration, meals, and lodging. CARVC is blessed with members that embrace the concept of ‘Carolina Strong,’ helping their neighbors when they need it most.”

The next CARVC Conference & Trade Show is scheduled for February 1-3, 2026, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, with plans to build on the success of this year’s event.
