The RV Industry Association (RVIA) released its September 2024 survey results, reporting a stable month for total RV shipments, which reached 24,595 units. This figure reflects a slight decrease of 0.4% from September 2023, when 24,700 units were shipped.
Despite the year-over-year drop, the overall trend for 2024 remains steady. RVIA President and CEO Craig Kirby highlighted the enduring appeal of RVing. “Overall RV shipments are steady for the month of September, but remain on track for modest increases in 2024 over 2023. RVing has an enduring appeal for families and individuals seeking flexible and affordable travel experiences,” Kirby said in a News and Insights report by RVIA.
Towable RVs, particularly conventional travel trailers, have shown resilience, with shipments increasing by 4.2% from the same month last year, totaling 22,279 units. In contrast, the motorhome segment saw a significant dip, with shipments decreasing by 30.1% year-over-year, reaching just 2,316 units in September.
Year-to-date data further underscores the RV sector’s steady growth trajectory in 2024. By September, total RV shipments totaled 256,412 units, marking a 7.7% increase from the same period in 2023.
Park Model RVs also saw a year-over-year decline in September. Shipments of these units fell by 12%, with just 294 units shipped.
In addition to September’s report, August’s data recorded a notable increase in total RV shipments, with 29,105 units shipped, reflecting a 3.7% rise from the previous year’s 28,071 units.
Year-to-date figures underscore the industry’s momentum, with total shipments through August 2024 amounting to 231,817 units—an 8.6% increase over the same period in 2023, while Park Model RVs experienced a decline, with shipments down by 21.3% in August 2024, totaling just 299 units.
