The RV Industry Association’s (RVIA) Plumbing, Heating, Fire & Life Safety, and Electrical Subcommittees convened their biannual fall meeting on October 28 and October 29 in Clearwater, Florida, bringing together more than 120 members and guests for two days of standards-focused discussions.
The subcommittees, which include manufacturers, suppliers, testing agencies, and other industry stakeholders, meet each spring and fall to evaluate and advance technical standards guiding RV design, construction, and safety.
According to a News and Insights report of RVIA, during the meeting, attendees reviewed 2026 public inputs and code proposals for the 2029 NFPA 1192 standard and the 2029 NFPA National Electric Code 70.
Members also evaluated updates to the RVIA 1192 and 119.5 handbooks. According to the association, proposals and approved revisions from the meeting will be forwarded to the Standards Steering Committee for additional review and approval.
The subcommittee structure plays a central role in supporting enforcement positions used by RVIA inspectors. These positions help ensure consistency and compliance across the industry.
The Electrical Technical Subcommittee is responsible for all matters related to electricity, including RV electrical systems and equipment.
The Fire & Life Safety Technical Subcommittee also oversees matters associated with RV consumer safety. That includes fire prevention, egress methods, warning devices, and other areas tied to reducing injury risk within RV environments.
The Heating Technical Subcommittee handles issues related to propane and LP gas systems, including tanks, valves, piping, and heating equipment. Its evaluations help guide industry practices for fuel systems widely used across RV segments.
The Plumbing Technical Subcommittee oversees systems used for fresh water delivery, toilets, water and sewage drainage, and storage tanks. Its work ensures consistent performance and safety across essential RV plumbing components.
Collectively, the subcommittee reviews help inform detailed recommendations that form the basis of RV safety and requirements adopted across the industry.
