RVIA Study: 38% of RV Owners Have Travel Trailers

Go RVing has launched RV Owner Demographic Profile, the most comprehensive study of RV ownership ever done, offering deep perspectives and insights into the demographics and ownership habits of RV owners, former RV owners, and RV intenders.

According to the RV Industry Association’s (RVIA) report, there are seven distinct clusters based on the RV owners’ motivations, needs, and preferences. It also gives a detailed breakdown of the different kinds of recreational vehicles and an examination of what demographics favor different types of RVs.

According to a report, the most popular towable RVs are the conventional travel trailers, owned by 38 percent of RV owners. They are most commonly used in the fall and summer months, and travel trailers are most well-liked by young families (16 percent), millennials and Gen- Z (17 percent), and first-time owners (29 percent). Eighty-seven percent of travel trailer owners hit the road with their spouse, while 27 percent travel with children under 18 and 26 percent with a pet. Very few prefer to travel alone (3 percent).

In looking for accommodations, state parks are the most sought-after choice (63 percent), and then private camping sites (53 percent) and national parks campgrounds (35 percent). In terms of engaging in other outdoor recreation pursuits, 30 percent bring a bike, and 13 percent take kayaks. Fifty percent of people do not carry additional outdoor recreation activities.

Thirty-four percent are between 18-54 years old; sixty-six percent are aged 55 plus. Fifty-nine percent of the owners of travel trailers are female, while 40 percent are male. Meanwhile, 30 percent of travel trailer owners work full-time, while 43 percent are retired. Fifty-four percent of them have an annual average income of more than $65,000, and 77 percent have no children living at home.

GoRVing will continue to take an in-depth look at who is the most likely to own different RVs in the next week. To visit the complete report, click here.
