RVIA Meets Minnesota Officials to Address Upcoming PFAS Reporting Rules

The RV Industry Association’s (RVIA) State Affairs Team met with leaders at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and state legislators as Minnesota prepares to finalize its PFAS product reporting regulations, scheduled to take effect on July 1, 2026.

The conversations focused on ensuring the emerging rules are workable for manufacturers and suppliers operating in a highly complex global supply chain.

According to a News and Insights report of RVIA on December 2, Minnesota’s RV industry supports over 15,000 jobs and contributes approximately $3 billion to the state economy, underscoring the importance of regulatory clarity as companies prepare for compliance.

RVs contain thousands of individual parts, ranging from electrical systems and wiring to insulation, carpets, upholstery, and fire-safety materials. Many of these components may include intentionally added PFAS, but detailed chemical composition data has not historically been collected at the part level.

Manufacturers and suppliers collectively manage more than a million unique parts across the industry. Because most items are sourced from global vendors, tracking PFAS content throughout the supply chain presents significant logistical and operational hurdles.

During the meeting with Minnesota Pollution Control Agency personnel, discussions centered on the structure of the reporting program, anticipated compliance expectations, and the state’s implementation timeline.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency also noted that product grouping may be allowed, which could help companies categorize related components instead of reporting each part individually.

The visit strengthened the RV industry’s relationships with Minnesota policymakers, providing officials with a clearer understanding of how the state’s PFAS reporting rules could impact manufacturers, suppliers, dealers, and the local communities that depend on RVs for outdoor recreation.

As Minnesota moves toward finalizing its PFAS program, RVIA will continue collaborating with state officials to ensure a smooth rollout.

The final rules are expected by the end of the year, at which point RVIA staff will review the provisions to identify potential challenges for member companies and the broader RV industry.
