RVIA Highlights Champion Homes’ John Tuyo and His Leadership in the Park Model RV Market

Champion Homes’ director of sales, John Tuyo, has been steering the company’s park model RV division since taking on the role two years ago.

Under his leadership, the company has expanded its focus on innovation, growth, and industry collaboration while maintaining a significant share of the market.

Champion Homes, a subsidiary of Skyline Champion Corporation, builds manufactured and modular homes, accessory dwelling units, park model RVs, and modular buildings for a range of housing and hospitality needs.

Although its 48 plants are capable of producing park models, 16 currently focus on building them. The company is headquartered in Troy, Mich.

“Since 1993, I’ve worked in manufactured housing— which now, for the last two and a half years, has expanded to include park model RVs,” Tuyo said in a News and Insights report of RVIA.

He noted that his appointment followed the retirement of his predecessor. “I travel a lot between our 16 plants that build park models today.”

A native of Wyandotte, Mich., Tuyo graduated from the University of Louisville and now resides in Oklahoma with his family.

He describes himself as an outdoorsman who enjoys golf, hunting, and camping. “Camping’s in my blood, and I enjoy being part of the park model industry. It’s a spectacular business,” he said.

In his role, Tuyo oversees Champion Homes’ sales teams, pricing strategies, and production logistics across its park model RV facilities. His responsibility is to ensure that the company’s products remain competitive while supporting long-term growth.

“We own about 20% of all of the park model business, and we want to continue our growth— even in a tough market,” Tuyo said. “We also want to develop products that are great for the end user and great for our plants, from a production standpoint.”

Tuyo also manages the development of new floor plans and expands points of purchase across the country, working with both new and existing communities. “All of that’s under my umbrella,” he said.

Champion Homes continues to emphasize innovation in its park model designs, aiming to keep its name at the forefront of the sector.

“We’re doing very well right now and continuing to drive park model business and keeping our name number one in the industry from a unit standpoint and volume standpoint,” Tuyo said.

He credited the company’s design team for tailoring products to regional markets. “We have a wonderful design team in North Carolina that helps me with Eastern colors, Florida colors, Northwestern colors, and Western colors. It’s a big bucket, and it’s an exciting business.”

Innovation remains central to Tuyo’s vision for the business. “We have a great team at Champion. When I dream up something, I write it down— whether it’s the middle of the night or the middle of the day. Then, I call one of our designers, and we talk about the application,” he said. Examples include triple porches and monoslope roofs.

Champion Homes aims to release new products twice a year, aligning launches with industry shows. “About twice a year, we try to come out with new products, especially for all the shows that we’re involved with,” Tuyo said.

Beyond his corporate responsibilities, Tuyo serves on the RV Industry Association’s Park Model Committee and regularly attends industry events such as RVs Move America Week.
