Rising Interest in Outdoor Activities Drives Boom in Campground Industry

The allure of the great outdoors has never been stronger, with more and more people seeking solace in nature and embracing camping to soak in the sunshine and create lasting memories.

According to RV Industry Association’s News & Insight report, the campground industry is experiencing unprecedented growth, with campgrounds across the nation seeing increased revenue, expanding amenities, and a surge in popularity among campers.

One example of this trend is Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Camp-Resorts, which continues to set new records in 2022. With total revenues growing by 12.2% and same-park sales up 2.7% in the past year alone, Jellystone Park has seen an astounding 16 consecutive years of revenue increase. The average Jellystone Park location has experienced a remarkable 55% revenue growth over the past two years, with average park sales surpassing $3 million.

What sets Jellystone Park apart from the competition is its financial success and its commitment to providing unparalleled amenities. With a keen focus on enhancing the camping experience, Jellystone Park is introducing new features at 25 locations. From multilevel water playgrounds to swim-up bars and ropes courses to laser tag fields, campers can expect an array of exciting offerings to elevate their camping adventures to new heights.

But Jellystone Park is not the only campground making waves in the industry. Luray RV Resort, located in the picturesque Shenandoah River region of Virginia, is also making significant strides in expanding its offerings.

From a modest 73 campsites, Luray RV Resort is expanding to 350 sites in a move that promises to transform the resort into a premier camping destination. Along with the increased capacity, Luray RV Resort is investing in community-centered amenities, including an amphitheater, a resort-like pool, cabanas, and a recreational center complete with pickleball, basketball, mountain bike track, corn hole, and RC car track.

“The growth at Luray RV Resort on Shenandoah River is going to create a flourishing property for both our visitors and residents of Page County,” says Kim Rhinehart, General Manager of Luray RV Resort. “In addition to the economic growth the expansion will bring, the upgraded amenities are elevating the camping experience to a resort-quality vacation, giving families the best of both worlds and will make them want to return year after year.”

The success of Jellystone Park and Luray RV Resort is indicative of the wider campground industry, which plays a crucial role in the thriving RV industry and the broader outdoor recreation sectors.

Recognizing the significance of campgrounds in enhancing the overall camping experience, the RV Industry Association is actively working with campground operators to improve amenities and services further, providing campers with unparalleled opportunities to connect with nature and create cherished memories with loved ones.

As the demand for outdoor activities continues to soar, the campground industry shows no signs of slowing down.

With innovative amenities, expanding sites, and a dedication to enhancing the camping experience, campgrounds like Jellystone Park and Luray RV Resort are leading the charge in providing campers with unforgettable adventures in the great outdoors.

Whether it’s a multilevel water playground or a community-centered recreational center, campgrounds are evolving to meet the growing needs of today’s outdoor enthusiasts, and the future of camping looks brighter than ever.
