ORR Creates New Program Director Role to Support $862-Billion Outdoor Rec Industry

The Outdoor Recreation Roundtable (ORR), a coalition of outdoor recreation trade associations representing the $862-billion outdoor recreation economy, has announced the creation of a new program director position.

The program director will work to build upon and expand ORR’s key programmatic areas, which currently consist of Workforce, Rural Development, State Offices of Outdoor Recreation, and the Together Outdoors Coalition.

According to Jessica Wahl-Turner, president of ORR, the new program director will be responsible for taking ORR’s existing programs to the next level and finding new ways to bolster ORR’s members and the entire outdoor industry.

Wahl-Turner emphasized that ORR is looking for a program director who has the experience, curiosity, and drive to succeed in this role.

“We are thrilled to be expanding ORR’s team of professionals dedicated to supporting the outdoor recreation economy, advocating for the conservation of our nation’s public lands and waters, and ensuring that all Americans have the ability to benefit from access to the great outdoors and feel welcomed there,” she said in a press release.

The key responsibilities of this new position include building out partnerships, plans, and future work that will elevate the entire outdoor sector, serving as project manager on relevant programs, and providing strategic oversight and communications around programs.

Furthermore, the role calls for driving program development and engagement with coalition members, ensuring all programs are supporting ORR’s 3-year Strategic Plan and Together Outdoors objectives, presenting at member trade shows, conferences, and partner events, and supporting program fundraising and development by creating relationships and leading strategic initiatives.

ORR is an equal-opportunity employer and the position offers opportunities for remote work and competitive benefits.

This announcement comes as the outdoor recreation industry continues to grow and evolve.

According to the Outdoor Industry Association, outdoor recreation contributes $862 billion to the US economy and supports millions of jobs. This growth has been fueled by a variety of factors, including increased interest in outdoor activities, a growing awareness of the importance of conservation and environmental stewardship, and more.

ORR has been at the forefront of efforts to support the outdoor recreation industry and promote conservation and environmental stewardship. The organization has worked to build partnerships and coalitions with other organizations and government agencies and has advocated for policies and initiatives that support outdoor recreation and conservation.

The creation of the program director position reflects ORR’s commitment to continuing to grow and expand its programs and initiatives. By hiring a program director with the right experience and skills, ORR will be better positioned to take advantage of opportunities and address challenges in the outdoor recreation industry.
