Waldport Council Greenlights Proposed Campground with Geodesic Domes

The Waldport City Council approved the vacation of a portion of Northwest John Way to facilitate the development of a new glamping resort and mini-golf course in the city’s downtown district. The decision, made during a public hearing on November 14, allows Livesay Development Group to unite two tax lots adjacent to Alsea Bay.

The proposed three-acre development, located on the former Waldport Middle School site that has remained vacant for 17 years, aims to revitalize the area. Plans include constructing geodesic domes connected by elevated boardwalks, two open-air pavilions, a pole-barn camp store, a playground, a food truck area, and an 18-hole “Bonsai” mini-golf course.

Additionally, the project will not hinder public access to two bayfront beach entry points, which will remain open. If the necessary permits are granted, Livesay Development Group intends to begin construction this winter, aiming for an early summer opening.

Developer Amy Jamros explained that the geodesic domes are designed to provide a glamping experience, blending the comfort of amenities with the appeal of camping. The domes will feature electricity for heating and outlets, while restroom facilities will follow a communal campground-style setup.

“We want to keep it as authentic to camping as you can when you are in a downtown district. It’s not really glamping the way you’re going out to an isolated place in nature. It’s definitely very much like downtown. But we want to create the environment that encourages people to want to camp out, feel like they are camping out at least a little bit,” Jamro said, as reported by Yachats News.
