Kah-Nee-Ta Hot Springs Resort Reopens After $13.1M Renovation

After nearly six years of dormancy, Kah-Nee-Ta Hot Springs Resort is set to welcome guests once again, following a $13.1 million renovation project. The Warm Springs Indian Reservation resort has opened its doors to the public, with online booking for overnight stays and day-use operations.

Originally established in 1962, Kah-Nee-Ta has long been a destination in Central Oregon. However, financial difficulties led to its closure in 2018, leaving many to wonder about its future. With the investment from the Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs, the resort has undergone a renovation, blending modern amenities with cultural significance.

The revitalized Kah-Nee-Ta offers an array of experiences for both day visitors and overnight guests. Day-use passes will be available from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, while those staying overnight can enjoy extended amenity hours from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Starting in August, the resort plans to introduce horseback riding and river float opportunities, further enhancing its recreational offerings.

One of the upgrades is the expansion of the resort’s water features. Kah-Nee-Ta now boasts 30 total pools, including hot springs mineral wellness pools, cold plunges, and soaking tubs. Additionally, the resort has implemented natural water treatment systems, featuring PebbleTec surfaces and micro-fusion nano-bubble technology, which reduces the need for chemicals like chlorine.

Accessibility has been a key focus of the renovation. The pools are now ADA-compliant, with accessibility ramps for waterproof wheelchairs and underwater benches. This commitment to inclusivity extends to the accommodation options as well, with two of the new Teepees specifically designed for disability access and parking.

The resort’s accommodations have undergone an overhaul. According to the resort, 30 rooms have been remodeled, ranging from three-bedroom suites that can accommodate up to 12 guests to individual rooms for four.

For RV enthusiasts, the park has been newly paved, offering 50 sites with full utility hookups and 20 additional parking spots. The RV area also includes a new recreational athletic room, catering to active guests.

To ensure the resort’s cultural heritage, 20 new Teepees have been installed, creating glamping experiences for outdoor enthusiasts. The Teepee area includes a large Tribal fire pit, which will host regular storytelling sessions, helping to keep cultural practices alive and offering guests a connection to the history of the Warm Springs Reservation.

To enhance guest comfort, Kah-Nee-Ta has introduced over 50 different types of shade structures, including retractable canopies and poolside cabanas. These range from eight-person VIP cabanas to intimate two-person options and even special cabanas designed for children.

Recognizing the importance of guest experiences, Kah-Nee-Ta has implemented new check-in systems. Day guests can take advantage of an automated online check-in process, while overnight visitors will enjoy a drive-through check-in system, eliminating the need to leave their vehicles.

According to an article published by KTVZ News, Jim Souers of the Warm Springs Economic Development Corporation expressed excitement about welcoming guests this summer, attributing it to the commitment and dedication of their partners, project teams, and the Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs.

“Our partners, Kirk Hanna and team, which operate Mt. Hood Skibowl, Collins Lake Resort, Lake Simtustus Resort and other recreational related companies really understood our vision for a newly reimagined Kah-Nee-Ta, the property is stunning and we could not be more excited about this achievement,” Souers said.
