Beverly Beach State Park, situated 7 miles north of Newport, welcomed back campers and beachgoers on August 1 following extensive renovations. The park’s upgrades aimed to enhance the visitor experience, offering improved facilities and amenities for a more enjoyable stay.
The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department closed the park last September to initiate the construction project. The primary focus was on enhancing the park’s infrastructure, which involved installing underground power lines and replacing aging waterlines.
One of the changes visitors will encounter is the increased sunlight throughout the park. This is a result of the removal of hazard trees. “We understand that the park looks a little different, but the hazard tree removal makes it safer for visitors,” park manager Burke Martin said.
Martin mentioned that the construction improvements would enhance the park for visitors both now and in the future.
According to a press release, another concern is the increasing tree mortality, which is likely due to drought stress from a declining water table. To improve long-term health and resilience, park staff plan to plant a variety of native trees and shrubs that are better adapted to the increasingly hot and dry climate.
Year-round camping is also available at Beverly Beach, with reservations open up to six months. The campground offers a variety of accommodations including 53 full-hookup sites, 76 electrical sites with water, 32 of which are pull-through, and 128 tent sites with water nearby. Additional amenities include flush toilets, showers, and firewood for sale daily.
For those seeking unique accommodations, there are 21 yurts available, and three of these yurts, along with six campsites, are accessible to campers with disabilities. The park also features three seasonal group tent camping areas and a dedicated hiker/biker camp.
An RV dump station is available for convenience, and only one extra vehicle is permitted per campsite.
Other facilities at Beverly Beach include a playground near the program area, reservable picnic shelters, a welcome center, and a yurt meeting hall. These amenities ensure that visitors have a comfortable and enjoyable camping experience, whether they’re staying in a tent, RV, or yurt.
The park’s location also makes it an ideal base for exploring nearby attractions. Visitors can easily access attractions like the Oregon Coast Aquarium and enjoy the shops and restaurants in Newport, combining the tranquility of a beach camping experience with the conveniences of a nearby town.
