Whispering Pines Nudist Resort Seeks Brunswick County Approval to Add 12 RV Sites

Whispering Pines Nudist Resort in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, is requesting county approval to expand its RV capacity from 57 to 69 sites.

The expansion, slated for review by the Brunswick County Board of Adjustment on Jan. 8, would include a new roadway and full utility hookups for each site.

Whispering Pines Nudist Resort currently operates 57 RV sites across 35 acres, offering visitors a combination of outdoor recreation and family-friendly amenities.

The proposed expansion would add 12 additional RV sites, bringing the total to 69.

Each new site would feature two off-street parking spaces measuring 9 feet by 18 feet, along with water, electricity, and septic connections. A new roadway is planned to provide convenient access to the additional spaces, contingent on county approval.

The campground’s amenities include a swimming pool, hot tub, volleyball courts, laundry and shower facilities, a clubhouse, and a library.

Owner John Frick acquired Whispering Pines in 2008 from Carol and Jerry Love, who purchased the property in 1993.

The resort originally opened in 1976 and has steadily grown in membership and visitor interest.

Short-term RV rentals are available at $30 per night for 30-amp hookups and $35 per night for 50-amp hookups. The resort does not provide cost estimates for the construction of the new RV sites, which Frick said will be completed in-house.

Whispering Pines previously expanded its RV capacity in 2019, when a special use permit allowed the construction of six additional sites. That project increased the total from 51 to 57 spaces.

Frick expressed confidence that county approval will be granted for the new expansion. He cited prior technical review committee approval and noted that construction could take approximately six months, allowing completion before the summer season.

“They’re building thousands of homes all around us,” Frick said, as reported by Port City Daily on January 4.  “There’s more people so there’s more need.” He identified regional population growth as a factor contributing to the resort’s rising popularity.

Whispering Pines is affiliated with the American Association for Nude Recreation.
