Proposed Etowah Valley Golf & Resort RV Park Discussion Postponed Amidst Opposition

The Henderson County Zoning Board of Adjustment members will not be discussing a proposed RV park at Etowah Valley Golf & Resort at its May 31 meeting.

Matt Champion, the code services director and zoning administrator for Henderson County, informed the Times-News on May 31 that the special-use permit for the Etowah Golf and RV Park has been postponed until June 28.

The June 28 meeting is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the King Street Meeting Room, located at 100 North King St., Hendersonville, North Carolina.

Tribute Development and Investment, a Wilmington-based developer, plans to build a 343-unit RV park on the golf course, which has been operating since 1967.

The developer is seeking a special-use permit to do so, and many residents near the golf course were opposed to the RV park and had planned on attending the May 31 meeting to voice their concerns.

David Garnett, president of the Etowah’s Reach Property Owners Association, said to the Times-News on May 31 that the group’s lawyer received more time to build the case against the developer. “Our lawyer received a month-long continuance from the county to better prepare the opposition case,” he said.

Etowah Valley Golf & Resort was previously owned by the Todd family, including former Hendersonville Mayor Frank Todd Sr., who founded the golf club in 1967. The resort includes three nine-hole courses, a 75-unit lodge for travelers, a dining room, a clubhouse, a croquet field, a swimming pool, and tennis courts.

The proposed RV park would take away several of the holes on one of the nine-hole courses, according to the site plan that was to be presented at the May 31 meeting.

The current property owners are WNC Resort Properties and have worked on a contract with Tribute Development, which is proposing a renovated 18-hole golf course and the RV park.

Etowah Valley Golf & Resort is a renowned golf resort located in North Carolina. It is nestled in the mountains, providing a serene and picturesque setting for golf enthusiasts. The resort offers 27 holes of golf, with three nine-hole courses named South, West, and North. Each course provides a unique terrain and challenges, making for a diverse golfing experience.

The resort also offers lodging accommodations, with 65 rooms and two private cottages. The Overlook Cottage sleeps 10, and the Lake View Cottage sleeps six.

For dining, guests can visit Zeke’s Tavern, which offers a wide array of beverage selections and menu items. There’s also Chelsea’s Event Center for corporate events, weddings, and special occasions.

In light of the ongoing discussions and potential opposition to the proposed RV park at Etowah Valley Golf & Resort, it’s essential for RV park owners and operators to remain well-informed about local regulations and community sentiments.

This awareness can aid in proactive planning and open communication with local residents, ensuring that all parties’ concerns are addressed effectively.

By fostering positive relationships with community members and demonstrating a commitment to responsible development, RV park owners can create a harmonious integration of their facilities into the community while sustaining the area’s natural beauty and recreational opportunities.

It seems like discussing openly with locals and considering their perspectives could help smooth things out. Maybe adding green spaces could be a win-win for all! What do you think?
