General RV Center, the nation’s largest family-owned RV dealer, is set to expand its nationwide footprint with its first dealership in North Carolina.

The new location, situated approximately 40 miles north of Charlotte in Rowan County, is scheduled to open next year. This will be General RV’s first dealership in North Carolina and its 16th Supercenter nationwide.

The company’s President, Loren Baidas, expressed excitement about the expansion, stating that being in North Carolina allows them to introduce their passion for RVing to this region of the country.

Their high-quality service will provide more accessibility for new and existing customers. The new dealership aligns with the community’s passion for the outdoors and family values.

The company plans to break ground in mid-August to start construction on a 71,000-square-foot facility, according to a press release.

The dealership will have over 30 service bays, including a six-bay body shop, with enough space to house 700 RVs on the lot. The investment in Rowan County is estimated at $25 million in real property improvements and equipment.

Once opened, the dealership will provide more than 150 full-time jobs with an average salary of $65,000. The construction and development of the site are expected to create an additional 66 indirect and induced jobs within the surrounding community.

Rod Crider, Rowan EDC President, celebrated the arrival of General RV to their community, noting the substantial $25 million capital investment and the creation of 150 well-paying new jobs. He expressed honor in having the nation’s largest family-owned RV dealer choose Rowan County as their first location in the Tar Heel state.

The local community will also benefit from General RV’s estimated 10,000 annual customers who will spend an average of six hours in their shops, restaurants, and attractions. The result for the local community will be approximately $740,000 of annual visitor spending.

County Commissioner Chairman Greg Edds emphasized the economic impact of high-paying jobs and new capital investment. He noted that General RV would draw customers from around the region, many of whom have never visited Rowan County before.

The typical RV owner explores local shops, indulges in local eats, and even seeks out local camping options when they bring their vehicle for a service appointment.

The dealership is expected to open in Fall 2024. A groundbreaking for the new facility is scheduled for mid-August. General RV Center, founded in Michigan in 1962, operates 14 full-service dealerships in Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, Virginia, Florida, Utah, and Pennsylvania.

The new General RV dealership in North Carolina will not only expand the company’s reach but also significantly contribute to the local economy. The investment will create jobs, attract visitors, and stimulate local businesses, making it a win-win for both General RV and the community of Rowan County.
