Hammocks Beach State Park is set to unveil its newest addition, the Simmons Mainland Campground, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for August 10. Swansboro Area Chamber of Commerce reports that the campground will be fully operational by Labor Day, September 2.
Located on the former Simmons FFA campsite, the new 8-acre campground with 22 sites will have various accommodation options to choose from. RV hook-up sites will rent for $36 per night, while non-electric sites will cost $26 per night. The campground also offers three primitive sites for a more rustic camping experience and seven non-electrical sites.
For those seeking a more comfortable stay, four cabins, Trout, Mullet, Flounder, and Red Drum, are another highlight. Each cabin can accommodate up to six people, featuring a large bed in the front room and two sets of bunk beds in the rear portion of the climate-controlled cabin. The cabins are available for rent at $78 per night.
Reservations for the Simmons Mainland Campground will be available through the North Carolina State Parks website.
The campground’s layout has been designed to maximize the natural beauty of the surroundings. Campers will be treated to scenic views of Queens Creek and the lush wooded areas that border the site.
To ensure a comfortable stay for all guests, the campground features a common bathhouse equipped with showers and toilets for both men and women. Additionally, each site is outfitted with an outdoor steel fire pit, ideal for cooking or enjoying a cozy campfire.
According to its website, Hammocks Beach State Park offers a variety of camping options, including tent sites accessible by backpacking via ferry or paddle-in, as well as group tent sites. The park also provides shower facilities for campers. Visitors can enjoy numerous activities such as hiking on 2.3 miles of mainland trails and 4 miles of beach, paddling, swimming, fishing, and picnicking.
In addition to outdoor recreation, the park’s amenities include a boat ramp, a seasonal concession stand, an auditorium, a gazebo, and a picnic shelter.
