Minnewaska State Park Preserve’s Sam’s Point Area Enforces Mandatory Parking Permits

New York State Parks and the Palisades Interpark Commission will pilot the mandatory permit parking in Sam’s Point Area of Minnewaska State Park Preserve.

Reservations will be required at Sam’s Point Area on weekends and holidays starting May 1 until the last weekend in October. Reservations are only allowed for two weeks.

The fee is $10.95 for the public and is free for Empire Pass holders. Stopping and standing, drop-offs, and pickups are prohibited.

Officials said the program aims to shield the site’s delicate ecosystem from the impacts of increased visitation and improve the visitor’s experience.

Minnewaska’s main parking area, located at 5281 U.S. Route 44/State Route 55 in Kerhonkson, remains open to the public on a first-come-first-serve basis without reservation required.

Reservations can be made two weeks in advance online at https://newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com or by calling (800) 456-2267.
