Hyde Hall and Glimmerglass State Park (New York) open the season with a community block party on May 28, Saturday.
The Hyde Hall and Glimmerglass State Park Block Party marks the start of the area’s summer season, giving different opportunities and activities for families from 10 AM to 3 PM. Twenty local organizations will join with activities, animals, crafts, free programs, nature walks, and music around Hyde Hall’s campus and the park.
In partnership with Friends of Recreation, Conservation, and Environmental Stewardship (FORCES), Glimmerglass State Park will provide workshops on birdhouse construction, leave no trace, fishing, camp safety, and guided hikes during the day.
The Rolling Meadows Clydesdales, some of the largest horses in the country, will also return for a meet-and-greet session, giving visitors the chance to learn more about them. Other than the horses, Utica ZooMobile will also bring animals for demonstrations, and the SPCA has pets for adoption for families to bring home.
“The Hyde Hall and Glimmerglass State Park Block Party is our way to welcome our local community into a deeper, richer, and more fun experience,” Hyde Hall’s Event Manager Colin Havener said, adding that “this is a first of what will become an annual event. Our community is amazing, and this is our opportunity to celebrate with each other.”
The block party has seen tremendous support from the community, with over a dozen local businesses sponsoring it, according to a report.
It will also have two concerts during the day. Hanzolo will play at Hyde Hall from 12 NN to 2 PM, and the Bone Doctor will perform at Glimmerglass State Park at 5 PM. The Cooperstown Food Pantry will join the event on-site with a food drive for tours.
The mansion also opens for tours on the 28th. A full schedule will be available on Hyde Hall’s website on May 25th. The event is free and open to the public, but Glimmerglass State Park has a day-use fee for every vehicle.
