North Star Farm, a 75-acre property in Franklin, NY, is a blueberry farm and luxury glamping retreat set to open on March 1, 2025. Owned by Justin and Kristina Kamm, the farm features four geodesic domes and a farmhouse available for rent.
The Kamms’ journey to the farm started after facing several health challenges in 2021, including mold exposure and COVID. “Going through something like that really changes you and your perspective on life and health and what’s important,” said Justin Kamm.
Leaving behind fast-paced careers in venture capital, the couple relocated away from northern New Jersey. The Kamms began exploring ways to build a healthier lifestyle for their family, which led them to search for a property in upstate New York.
“One day, we came across this listing for a blueberry farm. We never imagined we’d actually move forward with it, but we drove up that day to check it out and fell in love with the property, the town, and the surrounding area. It was just so beautiful, so we pulled the trigger and said, ‘I guess we’re going to be blueberry farmers now,‘” Justin Kamm said.
Kamm explained that introducing North Star Farm’s geodesic dome and farmhouse accommodations is a key step in sharing the family’s mission to promote health and wellness.
“The dome is canvas, on top of PVC, but it’s on a platform,” Justin Kamm detailed the domes’ amenities. “Each one has a full bathroom, two queen beds, a kitchen and they’re really nice and heated and air-conditioned. Each one has a wood-fired hot tub and we have a four-person, wood-fired sauna. It’s glamping, but it’s a higher-end experience. The house is also available for rent, and that’s three bedrooms and three bathrooms.”
The glamping experience at North Star Farm is designed to appeal to a broad demographic. The Kamms are particularly targeting empty-nesters, families, and younger travelers with disposable income.
“I view this as a family business, and we have a 20-year plan,” Justin Kamm explained to CNHI News. “There’s a lot we want to develop on the property.” Future plans include developing a walking trail, stocking a pond for fishing, and bringing animals onto the property.
The Kamms have already received significant interest on social media, with numerous inquiries about the domes through Instagram.
“We want to create partnerships with people, using food as the medium to get people to workshops and classes and integrate all that. This is something I’m hopeful my kids can inherit one day, and continue to share this message perpetually, so people can continue living a healthier lifestyle.”
