Collective Retreats has officially reopened its seasonal glamping destination on Governors Island for the 2025 season, offering an upscale outdoor lodging experience just minutes from Lower Manhattan.
The announcement was made on June 4, marking the return of a popular summer escape for both local and visiting travelers seeking nature-focused accommodations in New York City.
Situated on the 172-acre Governors Island, the retreat provides 29 glamping-style units ranging from canvas tents and tiny cabins to glass-walled suites.
These accommodations feature modern amenities, including air conditioning, heating, en-suite bathrooms, and stunning views of the Manhattan skyline, the Statue of Liberty, and New York Harbor.
The property is accessible via an eight-minute ferry ride from the Battery Maritime Terminal in Lower Manhattan, with daily service beginning at 7 a.m.
“As the only overnight lodging destination on Governors Island, the retreat offers 29 immersive glamping-style accommodations at the historic destination that allow guests to unwind and connect with nature in a secluded environment along the shores of New York Harbor,” the company shared in a statement with Travel + Leisure.
This year, Collective Retreats is introducing new culinary offerings and programming. The on-site Three Peaks Lodge provides farm-to-Island dining beginning at 5 p.m. daily, with a focus on seasonal, wood-fired cuisine.
Guests also have access to a complimentary continental breakfast and an afternoon social hour on the Sunset Terrace starting at 3 p.m.
The Great Lawn remains a central hub for guest activity, with hammocks, fire pits for s’mores, and games designed to evoke the spirit of summer camp.
Daily programming includes yoga sessions and live music, with the goal of fostering relaxation and social connection.
For additional recreational opportunities, guests can explore the island’s hiking and biking trails or visit historic landmarks such as Fort Jay and Castle Williams.
In partnership with QC NY Spa, the retreat is also offering guests discounted access to spa amenities, including outdoor pools, saunas, steam rooms, and massage services.
The 2025 season runs through November, with nightly rates beginning at $249. This includes ferry transportation, Wi-Fi in common areas, daily breakfast, and s’mores kits.
For outdoor hospitality professionals, the reopening of Collective Retreats on Governors Island offers a case study in blending luxury accommodations with nature-based experiences in an urban setting.
The operation highlights the demand for accessible glamping options within major metropolitan areas and reflects growing consumer interest in amenities that balance comfort with immersion in nature.
Business owners in the glamping and RV sectors may find this model particularly relevant for expanding offerings in or near urban markets.
