Aztec, New Mexico, will welcome a new outdoor hospitality option this month as RiverView RV Park prepares to open its 39-site, family-run destination along the Animas River.
The park’s opening is scheduled between January 15 and January 30.
The park’s launch comes after two years of grading, utility installation, and resolution of drainage challenges.
RiverView RV Park spans roughly three to four acres and is designed for a mix of short-term tourists and long-term renters.
According to an article published by Tri-City Record on January 12, Co-owner Chuck Smith said the property, once uneven and difficult to develop, required six weeks of leveling with heavy machinery before utilities could be installed.
“It was a rough piece of land when we first started,” Smith said.

Drainage issues presented the most significant obstacle. The former Public Works Director, Ruben Salcido, rerouted drainage away from the park’s center to the west, providing what Community Development Director Andrew DiCamillo described as a “permanent fix.”
Smith said initial drainage plans became unworkable. “So we went back to the city and said sorry, that corridor is kind of closed,” he said.
DiCamillo added that Salcido’s interim replacement, Jeric Jaramillo, identified an additional storm drain issue to the west.
The city plans to install two catch basins to mitigate long-term water concerns, a step that increased costs but ensures a sustainable solution for RiverView and neighboring properties.
“The bottom line is the city just took too long,” DiCamillo said of the original drainage plan. He confirmed the design is complete and work must start before spring runoff.
At RiverView RV Park, comfort meets convenience with RV sites designed for space and relaxation. According to its website, each 30’ by 80’ site features full hookups, including 30- or 50-amp electrical service, water, and sewer.
Guests also enjoy a concrete patio, picnic table, and fire pit, providing the setting for outdoor living and evening gatherings.
The park emphasizes a quiet, scenic, and family-friendly environment. Gravel roads ensure easy access, while secure fencing provides peace of mind.
Visitors can stretch out under New Mexico’s wide-open skies, take advantage of the fenced dog park, or enjoy the community pavilion with shaded seating and a BBQ grill. A riverside walking trail, city park, and stocked fishing pond are just steps away, offering easy access to outdoor recreation.
Phase Two amenities will expand the guest experience with an office, showers, laundry, and ice machine facilities. These additions will complement the current offerings, ensuring convenience and comfort for both short-term tourists and long-term renters.
