From Masquerade Balls to Fall Fest: Whippoorwill Campground’s End-of-Season Events

Whippoorwill Campground in Marmora, New Jersey, is rolling out a lineup of themed weekends from August through October, aiming to keep campsites active well beyond the summer peak.

The property sits roughly three miles from Ocean City’s beaches, giving guests a quick jump from cedar groves to coastline fun, according to the campground’s website.

A member of the Thousand Trails/Encore RV Resorts network, Whippoorwill blends long-standing traditions with family-focused themed weekends. The property offers tent and RV sites outfitted with picnic tables, fire rings, and cable TV, as well as air-conditioned rental cabins.

On-site amenities include a renovated pool complex—updated in 2024 with new lounge furniture—alongside a kiddie pool, sports court, arcade, snack shack, and a sand playground.

The themed weekends begin August 1–3 with a Masquerade Ball, inviting guests to dress up for evening socials and summertime elegance. For park operators seeking inspiration, bundling a campsite with a mask kit and optional late checkout could serve as a low-effort upsell while smoothing departure day traffic.

The following weekend, Princesses and Pirates Weekend (August 8–10) encourages costumes and treasure hunts aimed at young campers. Campgrounds can enhance the guest experience by partnering with local bakeries to pre-sell themed cupcakes—an idea that can simultaneously generate sponsorship revenue and reduce last-minute dessert prep.

Halloween Weekend, running August 15–17, brings spooky festivities to midsummer with trick-or-treating loops, site-decorating contests, and costume parades. For operators expecting evening foot traffic, temporary lighting and roaming staff could help with wayfinding and crowd control.

From August 22–24, Talent Show Weekend invites guests to take the stage for singing, comedy, juggling, and more. Campgrounds looking to ensure an inclusive and seamless experience may consider reserving ADA-accessible viewing zones and setting a rain plan that allows indoor relocation of performances without issuing refunds.

Labor Day Weekend (August 29–31) marks the traditional end of summer with all-ages competitions and games. Campgrounds can improve revenue by releasing sites in phases—offering early-bird pricing up to nine months in advance and reserving a final batch for last-minute bookers.

Whippoorwill’s Annual Fall Potluck, scheduled for September 12–14, continues a long-standing tradition of shared meals. Offering pre-sold tableware kits during online checkout can reduce staff supply runs and streamline guest planning.

The season wraps up with Fall Fest, October 17–19, which features hayrides, pumpkin painting, and harvest-themed décor. For parks anticipating an increase in day visitors, preparing overflow parking maps and maintaining a designated EMS lane can help manage weekend traffic and ensure safety.

Recurring favorites such as “Halloween in August,” the Annual Pig Roast, and regular community potlucks remain part of the campground’s seasonal offerings. These familiar events often attract return visitors who book the same sites year after year, according to the park’s event overview.

Whippoorwill is encouraging early reservations for late-season weekends. As part of ongoing improvements, the campground is also planning to add one-click digital upsells—such as golf cart rentals, linen kits, or even costume rentals—when a new booking portal goes live. These enhancements are designed to boost ancillary revenue while reducing front desk workload.

By blending tradition with timely programming, Whippoorwill’s late-season weekends aim to extend the spirit of summer through the fall—keeping families engaged, pads filled, and memories in the making.
