In a move that promises to redefine the theme park experience, Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey is set to introduce an upscale safari-style glamping resort. Slated to open in 2024, the Savannah Sunset Resort & Spa aims to offer guests an exotic experience surrounded by free-roaming African wildlife—right in the heart of Jackson Township.
According to a press release, the resort will be situated within the existing 350-acre safari park at Six Flags Great Adventure. Visitors will have the opportunity to wake up in luxurious tents surrounded by free-roaming giraffes and other African species.
The resort will feature ultra-luxurious “glamping” tents, scenic vistas, spa services, and VIP dining. The guest rooms are designed to resemble “authentic African lodges,” adding to the immersive experience.
Staci Wheeler, a spokesperson for Six Flags Great Adventure, also told Asbury Park Press that the resort would be the first of its kind within the Six Flags brand. The campsite will be located in the middle of the Wild Safari Park, allowing animals to freely roam around the enclosed area.
The safari animals will inhabit the site year-round, with climate-controlled indoor habitats available for all tropical species. A devoted animal care team will oversee their wellbeing, ensuring the resort functions as not only a luxurious retreat for guests, but also a safe haven for its animal residents.
The resort will include a fine-dining restaurant surrounded by wild exotic fauna, elevating the dining experience to a whole new level.
Alongside the resort, Six Flags is also planning to introduce a super boomerang coaster that can reach speeds of up to 60 mph, making it the first of its kind in North America.
While the complete list of amenities and pricing details are yet to be released, the company has confirmed that various discount packages will be available to guests.
In a press release, Great Adventure President Brian Bacica stated that the new rides and experiences represent the largest investment the park has made in 20 years. The resort is part of a broader strategy to expand the park’s offerings, which already include a variety of rides and attractions.
The opening of the resort will coincide with the 50th anniversary of Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey, making it a landmark year for the theme park.
While the public’s reaction to this new venture is yet to be gauged, the resort promises to offer a unique blend of luxury and adventure, potentially attracting a new demographic to the theme park.
The introduction of the Savannah Sunset Resort & Spa is in line with Six Flags’ commitment to innovation and providing unforgettable experiences, as stated by Selim Bassoul, president and CEO of Six Flags.
“At Six Flags, our relentless drive for innovation is powered by our passion to create moments of pure joy and excitement for our guests,” Bassoul said in a release.
With its unique blend of luxury, adventure, and animal conservation, the Savannah Sunset Resort & Spa is poised to set a new standard in the world of glamping. Only time will tell how this ambitious project will impact the industry and whether it will set a precedent for other parks to follow.
