Major Upgrades Complete at Greenfield State Park, Now Open for 2025 Season

Greenfield State Park in New Hampshire officially reopened on June 13 following an extended closure for infrastructure repairs and upgrades.

The park, which includes 250 campsites and a popular day-use beach, had been shut down since fall 2023.

According to an article published by Monadnock Ledger-Transcript on July 3, Greg Keeler, marketing and communications director for NH State Parks, said the reopening restores access to the largest campground in the state system.

“Greenfield is the largest New Hampshire State Park campground… these upgrades will provide for Greenfield State Park’s success into the future,” Keeler said.

The renovations included relocating electric and communication lines underground, improving water and sewer systems, repaving roads, upgrading bathhouses, and constructing a new RV dump station.

A new toll booth was also built at the park entrance to improve visitor access and operational efficiency.

The park suffered extensive damage in March 2023, when a severe blizzard dumped more than three feet of snow on the region, toppling hundreds of trees.

Former NH State Parks spokesperson Sean Hamilton described the event as the most destructive he had witnessed in a single park.

“We worked all day, every day for a month-and-a-half to get the park open by Memorial Day 2023,” Hamilton said, noting that the initial repairs were only the beginning.

After evaluating the remaining work, state officials decided the park would remain closed through summer 2024 to complete all renovations.

Approximately $1 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act funds were used to support the park’s upgrades. Half of the roads within the 400-acre park were repaved, including the primary campground road and the loop road serving campers.

Local visitors welcomed the improvements. George Boren of Troy, who has camped at Greenfield with his wife for over a decade, said the upgrades were worth the wait.

Facilities such as the beach shop are still undergoing renovations. However, boat rentals and beach access remain available to visitors through the remainder of the summer season.
