Nevada Opens Public Input on 10-Year Outdoor Recreation Plan

The Nevada Division of State Parks and the Nevada Division of Outdoor Recreation are asking the public to weigh in on the 2027–2036 Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan, a ten-year strategy that will guide the state’s approach to parks, trails, and recreation areas according to an article by Nevada Appeal.

The Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan, known as SCORP, is designed to identify statewide priorities for awarding federal funds from the Land and Water Conservation Fund to communities for acquiring and developing outdoor recreation areas.

It will also pinpoint key issues, assess gaps in resources and maintenance, catalog the state’s recreation assets, and analyze both state and national outdoor recreation trends along with their economic impacts.

In addition, it will provide strategies and actions to ensure long-term sustainability.

The planning process, established in the 1960s, requires every state to update its SCORP once every decade.

These updates are essential because they allow states, tribes, and local governments to apply for and receive matching grant funding from the LWCF for the acquisition and development of public outdoor recreation facilities.

Public input is being gathered through an online survey available until September 15 at  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NVSCORP

For additional questions or comments about the survey or the plan, the agencies have directed people to email [email protected].

The SCORP process is crucial to the outdoor recreation industry, shaping how funding is distributed, which projects are prioritized, and how Nevada positions itself to meet future demand for parks, trails, and public recreation opportunities.
