New River Hideout Campground Welcomes Visitors Along Niobrara River

A new campground has opened along the Niobrara National Scenic River, offering tourists and locals an opportunity to experience the natural beauty of north-central Nebraska.

River Hideout Campground, located just a few miles from Valentine, was recently reopened after being purchased by Billie Brockley, her sister, and their father in May. The campground now operates with modest amenities but promises a retreat for visitors.

The campground charges $25 per night and features basic utilities such as water and electric hookups, though it currently lacks a full bathhouse.

According to an article published by News Channel Nebraska Central, Co-owner Karen Phillips shared that while the site is still in development, it offers a quiet, remote atmosphere, attracting visitors from across the country, including Arizona, Texas, and tourists from Sturgis. “It’s peaceful, quiet, and remote,” Phillips said.

Future plans for River Hideout include building a new bathhouse and potentially adding an event venue, making it more accommodating for weddings and other gatherings.

Visitors to River Hideout praised its tranquil environment. “We had some campers down here for ten days, and they absolutely loved it because it’s peaceful,” Phillips said.

Located along the Niobrara River, the campground offers a variety of outdoor activities. Visitors can enjoy swimming in the river or relaxing on the campground grounds. For those who prefer exploring, a walk or bike ride along the nearby Cowboy Trail is an option. The trail leads to a view from the old train bridge, which spans the Niobrara River.

According to its website, the campground is currently undergoing renovations, though reservations for camping are still being accepted. Available amenities include water and 30-amp electrical hookups.

“We are currently under construction. We have limited accommodations to offer. We are working on providing a full service private campground with accommodations that will be designed to be comfortable and convenient, so you can focus on enjoying your stay,” the campground indicated on its website.
