A new glamping project is in development in Antelope County, Nebraska, offering a glimpse into what may become a future hospitality destination for travelers seeking outdoor experiences with upscale comforts.
The Tall Grass Retreat, a 45-acre property located just south of the Antelope County Fairgrounds in Neligh, is expected to open in the spring of 2026.
The retreat will feature 24 geodesic dome-style accommodations, each designed to host between four and six guests.
According to owner Shannon Baumgartner, the concept of “glamping”—or glamorous camping—caters to those who enjoy nature but prefer not to sacrifice convenience and comfort.
“If you like to get outside but not necessarily have to pack everything in your vehicle and then set it all up and do all of that work, well, that’s exactly what we offer,” Baumgartner told News Talk WJAG.
“This is a luxury accommodation. You’ve got a king-sized bed in the smaller domes or a queen-sized bed and two double beds. In the family domes, we’ll have a king-sized bed plus a queen bed with a twin bed over that, and even a folding futon so we can get more people in that.”
Each dome will include heating, air conditioning, linens, a coffee maker, and a microwave, according to Baumgartner.
The public will get an early look at the project during the Antelope County Fair, with a sneak peek scheduled for Saturday, August 3, following the community barbeque.
This preview is intended to generate local interest and provide potential guests and supporters a firsthand look at the accommodations.
For professionals in the outdoor hospitality industry, Tall Grass Retreat represents a regional case study in the growing trend of rural luxury lodging.
Its integration of glamping structures and modern amenities on a fairground-adjacent site may offer useful insights for operators exploring similar opportunities near event venues or tourist hubs.
