Blue Bay Campground, Montana State Parks Gear Up for Vacation Season

Blue Bay will have a successful year, and Montana is expected to have another busy summer. The campgrounds will be crowded, and parks will be packed.

According to a report, the Natural Resources Department’s Wildland Recreation Program grant helped fulfill one of the recreation needs, like improving the fishing dock to accommodate the upcoming season of enjoyment at the Blue Bay campground.

Waves and wind can be a burden on docks. As the lake’s level dropped, the staff could access areas where repairs or modifications were needed.

“Our tribal membership loves Blue Bay; we don’t have a lot of access areas for tribal membership to attend,” said Rich Janssen, NRD director.

Other changes consist of purchasing a large ice-making machine that will allow Blue Bay to store and sell the ice to guests. They sell 50 to 100 bags of ice every day.

A bathroom near the back of the campground was recently renovated.

The job openings for Blue Bay and other places will be released next month, and Blue Bay will continue to prepare for the season Montanans are eagerly anticipating, “We’re excited and anticipate a good year,” Janssen said.

Blue Bay Campground is scheduled to open on Memorial Day weekend.

Montana State Parks anticipates a busy year. Glacier National Park has announced that a vehicle reservation system will be restored during the 2022 peak season from May 27 until September 11, starting at 6 a.m. until 4 p.m.

While there are economic benefits to tourists traveling to Montana, many Montana residents are beginning to feel overcrowded with tourists.

The data indicates that more people have started to accept rather than deny that Montana is getting too crowded with tourists over the last few years.
