Starting June 18 through September 1, Blacktail Mountain Ski Area near Lakeside will open its slopes for summer recreation for the very first time, offering a new high-altitude destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
According to an article by Daily Inter Lake, the ski area, a beloved local spot overlooking Flathead Lake, will transform into a hub for camping, hiking, disc golf, and off-road vehicle adventures.
Campers can take advantage of dry camping sites accommodating tents, trailers, and RVs. While there are no hookups available, guests will have 24-hour access to lodge restrooms and potable water.
Reservations for campsites can be made online, with additional spots available on a first-come, first-served basis through the camp host stationed on the mountain.
Blacktail Trading Company, the ski area’s retail store, will convert into a summer camp store featuring logo apparel, trail snacks, camping essentials, disc golf gear, and locally crafted merchandise.
The camp store’s hours are Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Visitors will have access to trails such as the Lakeside to Blacktail Trail and the Foys to Blacktail Trail, with maps and insider tips provided at the camp store.
Off-road vehicle rentals will be available for exploring designated trails and rugged terrain in the Wild Bill area.
These rentals can be booked online or accessed on a first-come, first-served basis at Blacktail’s U.S. 93 location in Lakeside starting mid to late June.
“We’re excited to open the mountain this summer for family fun outdoor adventures,” said Karie Helms, Marketing Director at Blacktail Mountain.
“Whether you’re hiking or biking one of the local scenic trails, playing a round of disc golf with your friends, or exploring backcountry roads in one of our off-road rental vehicles, we think you’re going to fall in love with summer at Blacktail just as much as you love it in the winter,” Karie added.
For local trail information, maps, and tips, guests can visit the camp store, where Blacktail staff are also available to assist.
