The campground at Long Branch State Park in Macon, Missouri, has closed and will remain shut throughout 2026 as construction work begins on major renovations. The site is not expected to reopen until 2027.
According to 3KTVO on September 1, the closure is necessary to carry out upgrades aimed at improving the park’s infrastructure and ensuring long-term usability of the campground.
While the campground will not be accessible, other sections of Long Branch State Park will remain open to visitors during the construction period.
“This is it…your last beach report until next year. After Labor Day, Missouri’s 18 designated swim beaches will close until the Friday before Memorial Day 2026. So get out there this week and celebrate National Beach Day,” the Missouri State Parks announces in a Facebook post.
According to its website, Long Branch State Park offers visitors a wide range of recreational opportunities centered around the scenic Long Branch Lake.
Three boat ramps provide convenient access to the water, while the marina store, swimming beach, and nearby day-use area are especially popular with families.
Fishing is also a key draw for many visitors. For those looking to extend their stay, the park features a modern campground designed for both comfort and convenience.
The campground also offers a mix of basic, electric, and family campsites, along with several walk-in tent-only sites.
Seasonal considerations include limited water availability in winter months, firewood access at the vending machine, and rules regarding pets and firewood transport.
“Camping is limited to any 15 days within a 30-consecutive-day period at any one park or historic site,” the campground adds.
Camping at the park is also pet-friendly, with up to two dogs allowed per campsite. Pets must be supervised at all times and kept on leashes no longer than 10 feet, as portable fences, shock collars, and other electronic devices are not permitted.
