The Mercer County Area Development Corporation (MCAD) has unveiled plans for a new campground during Princeton, Missouri’s City Council meeting on November 12. MCAD representatives John Girdner, Tammy Hart, and Spencer Hart were present at the council meeting.
The first phase of the project will focus on-site preparation, including the removal of existing structures like fences, dugouts, and light poles. MCAD has asked the city for assistance with providing municipal equipment and labor to help facilitate the cleanup process.
When the project is completed, MCAD plans to transfer the operation and maintenance of the campground and RV park to the city.
Alongside the campground project, MCAD updated the council on their progress in securing a grant for installing wayfinding signs within the city of Princeton. City Superintendent Greg Goodknight confirmed that once the materials are procured, workers will assist with the sign installation.
During the discussion, council members recommended that MCAD consult with the local fair board to explore possible collaborative opportunities for the campground development. The fair board had shown previous interest, and further conversations are planned to define their role.
Once completed, MCAD plans to transfer the operation and maintenance of the campground and RV park to the city.
According to an article published by KTTN News, the council also examined a proposal to acquire new playground equipment for the ball fields, amounting to $52,749. The project will be funded through a $25,000 grant from MCAD and $40,000 from the Mercer County Recreation Tax.
