Minnesota Extends PFAS Reporting Deadline Following Industry Pushback

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) has extended the deadline for manufacturers to report products containing intentionally added per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) by six months.

The reporting deadline, originally set for Jan. 1, 2026, will now be July 1, 2026.

The extension applies to companies that manufacture, sell, or distribute PFAS-containing products in Minnesota.

“Because the risk of PFAS pollution and human exposure persists from when the chemicals are created to decades after a product containing PFAS is disposed of, reporting PFAS use is foundational to effectively protect human health, the environment, and our economy from these chemicals,” MPCA indicates.

The MPCA’s announcement follows sustained feedback from the RV Industry Association (RVIA), its partners, and other stakeholders in the manufacturing sector.

According to the MPCA, the decision was influenced by concerns over the scope and feasibility of the original deadline.

The announcement cited the challenges of managing complex supply chains, collecting extensive product data, and preparing for compliance in the absence of a finalized rule or a functioning reporting platform.

“This announcement is a result of the advocacy efforts of the RV Industry Association, industry partners, and widespread concern expressed by the manufacturing community about the lack of time to comply with the rapidly approaching reporting deadline,” the association states in an RV and Insights report of RVIA on July 24.

RVIA played a central role in advocating for the extension. Its efforts included submitting two rounds of written comments, providing verbal testimony during a May 22 public hearing, and organizing discussions with MPCA staff.

Serving the RV industry for 50 years, RVIA is the leading national trade organization representing over 500 manufacturers and suppliers.

With offices in the Washington, D.C., area and Elkhart, Indiana, RVIA members produce 98% of all RVs built in the United States and around 60% of those manufactured globally.

The association supports a $140 billion industry that plays a critical role in outdoor recreation and American manufacturing.

RVIA also works to unify the RV industry by building partnerships and advocating for shared goals that promote innovation, safety, and consumer access.

Through legislative advocacy, industry standards, research, and education, the association helps shape policy and business environments that foster continued growth and success for RV manufacturers, suppliers, and the broader outdoor market.
