Traverse City KOA Holiday featured a packed Labor Day weekend, drawing hundreds of campers to one of northern Michigan’s most popular campgrounds.
To accommodate the influx of guests, the campground hosted a lineup of family-friendly events in addition to its regular amenities.
Campers enjoyed mini golf, gem mining, an RC track, grab-and-go crafts available at the front desk, and a scavenger hunt with prizes for participants.
The organized events included s’mores, followed by a train ride. On Saturday (August 30), activities featured a morning train ride at 10 a.m., a foam party at 2 p.m., and a bike parade at 6:30 p.m.

Sunday programming continued with another 10 a.m. train ride and a tie-dye craft session at 1 p.m.
“What a fun weekend! We had s’mores, a bike parade, a foam party, and tie-dye! Such a great way to say goodbye to summer. Don’t forget to make those memories last—swing by the office and get your spot reserved for next year. Let’s make next summer even better!” the campground indicates in a Facebook post.
The campground reported nearly 300 reservations heading into the holiday weekend, with only a few spaces remaining.
Labor Day, along with the Fourth of July, is consistently among the busiest times of the year before the property transitions to its winter season.
“We did expand the campground to almost double and we’ve been filling up on the weekends, staying busy during the week so it’s been a good season,” Kate Eastwood, KOA’s assistant manager, said, as reported by UpNorthLive ABC on August 31.

Traverse City, home to the campground, also draws visitors with attractions such as Sleeping Bear Dunes, local orchards, wineries, and vineyards.
Recreation options in the area included boat and jet ski rentals, parasailing, sandy beaches, and more than 40 golf courses within an hour of the campground.
According to its website, the campground itself offers cabins, deluxe sites, and 50-amp pull-thru sites. Amenities included a pool, playgrounds, and giant outdoor games.
Additional conveniences such as Wi-Fi, cable TV, laundry facilities, picnic areas, and planned activities were available throughout the season.
