Timberglow Getaway to Bring Geodesic Dome Glamping to Michigan by 2026

Lansing-area natives Lindsay and AJ Updyke are developing a new glamping destination in Michigan’s Ogemaw County.

The couple recently purchased the former Whispering Pines Campground in Twining, transforming the 23-acre site into what will become Timberglow Getaway.

The project reflects a growing interest in experiential and upscale outdoor accommodations in Michigan’s camping and tourism market.

For the past four years, the Updykes traveled across the United States in a converted school bus, working seasonal jobs at various campgrounds.

Through these experiences, they learned the operational and guest service aspects of campground management, which they are now applying to their own business. In January 2025, they officially acquired the property and began renovation and development work.

Timberglow Getaway is set to open in spring 2026 with four pet-friendly geodesic domes available for rent. Each dome will include electricity, heating and cooling, a queen or king bed, a mini fridge, a table and chairs, and linens and towels.

Guests will also find small personalized touches such as a “mailbox surprise” to enhance their stay.

“We love connecting with campers and are excited to provide a getaway where you can immerse yourself in nature and enjoy a fun experience,” Lindsay told Up North Voice.

The Updykes plan to continue improving the site over time, with future amenities to include a bathhouse, a camp store, and a camper lounge stocked with books and board games. They also plan to install a communal outdoor kitchen to encourage guest interaction and shared experiences.

For business owners in the outdoor hospitality sector, Timberglow Getaway highlights how small operators are blending traditional camping with modern amenities to meet evolving traveler expectations.

The Updykes’ approach—emphasizing comfort, creativity, and community—illustrates an accessible entry point into the glamping market for entrepreneurs interested in repurposing or revitalizing older campground properties.

The couple continues to share updates on their renovation process and project milestones via social media on Facebook and Instagram (@timberglow_getaway) and their website, timberglowgetaway.com.
