The Mitchell State Park in Cadillac, Michigan, a popular destination for camping, boating, and fishing, is set to reopen its campground following a month of significant improvements.
The park, which spans 660 acres and is nestled between Lakes Mitchell and Cadillac, has been closed for the past month while workers constructed a new toilet/shower building, paved the campground road, and installed 10 new jug fillers.
The improvements were part of a larger initiative to upgrade state parks, funded by $250 million in federal relief COVID-19 funding (American Rescue Plan Act of 2021) made available to Michigan State Parks for infrastructure improvements through the Building Michigan Together Plan.
The $1 million campground road project was a part of this initiative. Additionally, Mitchell State Park received an additional $1.2 million to renovate its day-use toilet building, a project scheduled for later.
The campground toilet-shower building project was funded through other sources. The new facilities are nearly complete, with the final touches being added in anticipation of the reopening.
