Early Monday morning, a fire ravaged the camp store at Outdoor Advertures’ Grand Haven Resort, a renowned destination located just minutes from Lake Michigan and downtown Grand Haven.
The store, an integral part of the Outdoor Adventures Resort campground, was completely destroyed. As per the Grand Haven Tribune, Grand Haven Township Fire/Rescue came to the scene and was assisted by the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety and fire crews from Port Sheldon, Robinson, Allendale, and Spring Lake townships.
According to an update on Grand Haven Resort’s Facebook page, the fire broke out around 4 am on Monday, July 31, and ended with no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The resort’s management has informed visitors and patrons that the store will remain closed for an unspecified duration. Plans are underway to establish a temporary store within the resort’s clubhouse, and further details will be shared as they become available.
Hot water supply to the laundry and showers was also suspended on Monday.
Further updates from the resort’s Facebook page indicate a series of measures and changes in the aftermath of the fire. On July 31 at 12:00 PM, the resort announced that the putt-putt facility is operational, with no equipment damage reported. All equipment for putt-putt is available at the clubhouse, which is also serving as the temporary check-in point for visitors.
As of August 1, 10:00 AM, the outdoor pool has been reopened to the public. However, it remains unheated due to current restrictions on propane usage.
Members and visitors with reservation concerns have been directed to contact the Member Services Team for assistance. The resort’s management has expressed gratitude for the community’s patience and understanding during this challenging period.
“We appreciate your patience and understanding at this time,” the Facebook post reads.
The community’s response to the incident has been overwhelmingly supportive. Many have expressed their sympathies and concerns, emphasizing the store’s significance to the resort and its visitors.

The Grand Haven Resort by Outdoor Adventures, as highlighted by Visit Grand Haven, offers a plethora of amenities, including a large heated pool, an indoor arcade, miniature golf, and a go-kart track. The fire’s aftermath has inevitably created a void in the services provided by the resort, but efforts are underway to restore normalcy.
