Huttopia Berkshires officially opened for business, welcoming guests to its $8 million glamping resort in Hancock, Massachusetts.
The company’s third and final New England property offers short-term, nature-focused stays designed to appeal to urban residents and families seeking a comfortable outdoor experience.
Located on a 99-acre property previously occupied by the clothing-optional Berkshire Vista Resort, Huttopia purchased the site for $2 million in November 2023.
The new venture offers accommodations, ranging from basic platform tents to winterized tiny houses.
Unlike its predecessor, Huttopia Berkshires enforces mandatory quiet hours and does not allow vehicle access to tent sites, encouraging a low-impact approach.
Guests use carts to move luggage and supplies to their accommodations, which include amenities like fire rings, propane grills, bistro tables, and private outdoor spaces.
Huttopia, which originated in France, has U.S. resorts in New Hampshire, Maine, and the Adirondacks.
According to an article published by The Berkshires Eagle, the resort’s accommodations include Bonaventure platform tents with queen beds and solar-powered lanterns; Canadienne tents that sleep up to five with kitchenettes and wood stoves; and Trappeur tents featuring indoor plumbing and cook stoves.
The most upscale option is the Sierra, a four-season tiny house built in Pennsylvania using materials sourced from France. Designed with skiers in mind, it features a full kitchen, air conditioning, ceiling fans, and separate sleeping areas for families or groups.
While Huttopia typically targets families, the first Sierra booking was for a group of five adults. “We want [guests] to feel completely confident that everything is in order and they can ask anything of us,” he said.
Entertainment and recreation include outdoor games, board games, book exchanges, movie nights, and live performances. The on-site café serves espresso, crepes, panini, and pizza, providing dining options beyond traditional camping fare.
