Luxury RV Builder Breaks the Mold with New Off-Road Camper Van

Tiffin, a company best known for its large, high-end motorhomes, is expanding its reach in the RV market by introducing a rugged new model that caters to off-road adventurers.

According to an article by New Atlas, the 2026 Open Trail Class B+ motorhome is the latest addition to its “Adventure” lineup and represents a significant shift for the manufacturer, embracing a more compact, terrain-capable design.

Built on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500 AWD dually cutaway chassis, the Open Trail aims to offer the off-grid freedom and durability demanded by overlanders, while maintaining Tiffin’s hallmark comfort and quality.

The Open Trail joins last year’s GH1 and GH2 in Tiffin’s growing off-road portfolio. With this latest release, the company clearly targets competitors like the Winnebago Revel and Ekko, offering a roomier alternative that’s more like a compact home than a converted van.

At 25.5 feet long, the Open Trail is 2.5 feet longer than the extended-length GH2 and extends to a rear body width of 84 inches—four inches wider than the base Sprinter van. The roof is a full foot taller and includes a small alcove above the cab for additional storage.

Inside, the new 25 AO floor plan is designed for comfortable two-person travel with occasional guests.

The fixed rear bedroom features two raised twin beds that can be converted into a king-size bed measuring 76 by 80 inches using center cushions.

There are overhead storage cabinets, dual under-bed closets, and individual reading lights. At the front, a wraparound L-shaped sofa encircles a dining table and works in tandem with the swivel cab seats to form a spacious lounge area.

The sofa converts into a single bed, giving the motorhome a total sleeping capacity of three. While this layout favors couples or grandparents with an occasional guest or grandchild, a full four-berth option could make the vehicle more appealing to families or groups.

The Open Trail seats four while in transit and at camp, though the sleeping arrangement currently supports only three.

The possibility of fitting a small child between adults in the king bed exists, but it’s clear that Tiffin is catering primarily to traveling couples with the 25 AO layout.

Still, the modularity and available space suggest that a more family-oriented version could be introduced in the future.

The wet bath is located mid-vehicle and feels slightly oversized compared to other designs, featuring a full-width vanity opposite a corner toilet.

The galley stretches along the passenger-side wall behind the side entry door. It comes well-equipped with a standard single-burner induction cooktop, a 297-liter dual-hinged fridge/freezer, a stainless steel microwave/air fryer, and a stainless sink with a retractable faucet. A countertop extension adds prep space, giving the kitchen a premium and functional layout.

The vehicle’s electrical system is designed to support off-grid living, starting with a 270-Ah Battle Born lithium battery pack, a 3,000-W inverter, and an optional pair of 200-W solar panels.

Power distribution is managed by a Spyder Controls Multiplex system with a central monitor, and a Firefly Integrations Mira module provides Bluetooth connectivity for remote control via smartphone.

A 3.2-kW diesel generator is included for backup, and buyers can upgrade to a more robust electrical package with increased battery capacity.

Heating and cooling systems include hydronic water and cabin heating, a 15,000-BTU air conditioner with heat pump, and Aqua View water recirculation to improve water efficiency when off-grid.

The Open Trail also comes standard with Starlink prewiring and offers an optional Starlink Mini satellite dish. Water storage is handled by 197-liter fresh and waste tanks.

Tiffin has ruggedized the exterior to suit its adventure focus. The front features a bold off-road bumper and chin cut, while ruggedized panels protect the lower sides.

The motorhome rolls on LT 245/70R 16 tires, and a full-length roof rack expands storage options.

A Girard awning offers shade, and the vehicle’s suspension includes rear Sumo Springs with an optional Agile Offroad upgrade package.

The Open Trail debuted at Tiffin’s 2025 dealership event and made a public appearance at Overland Expo West 2025.

Though Tiffin hasn’t published an official MSRP, one listing briefly showed a price just under $185,000 USD before being taken down.

If accurate, that would make the Open Trail about $60,000 less expensive than Winnebago’s 2025 Ekko Sprinter 23B and cheaper than Tiffin’s own GH2.

However, the final pricing may be subject to change once full production ramps up.

The introduction of the Open Trail highlights Tiffin’s move into a growing market segment—adventure-ready Class B+ vehicles that offer luxury-level living in off-road-capable formats.

fairAs more RVers look for vehicles that can balance comfort with the freedom to explore remote terrain, models like this one are becoming a defining force in shaping the future of recreational travel.
